The GIMP development team has released version 3.2.4, a maintenance update that resolves several high-priority bugs affecting layer workflows. Users are urged to upgrade to prevent accidental data loss and unpredictable layer behavior.
"We caught more cases where tools would accidentally rasterize link, text, and vector layers," a GIMP developer stated. "This release ensures that actions like 'Layers to Image Size' and 'Resize Layer to Selection' only apply to raster layers."
The update also addresses a layer naming issue that violated what the team calls the "principle of least surprise." The bug caused unexpected layer name changes when performing common operations.
Previously reported stability problems when opening XCF files in certain configurations have also been fixed, improving compatibility with legacy projects.

GIMP 3.2.4 is the fourth maintenance release in the 3.2.x branch, which debuted as a major overhaul of the popular open-source image manipulation software. The series introduced a redesigned user interface, improved performance, and modernized codebase.
