AI and Networking Leap Forward
AWS today launched two major services: Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.7 on Amazon Bedrock and the general availability of AWS Interconnect, a managed private connectivity solution. The announcements mark a strategic push to dominate enterprise AI and hybrid cloud networking.

"AI will not make you obsolete," said a senior AWS executive during a recent industry event. "The developers who will thrive are those who stay curious, think in systems, and take ownership. The world needs more coding skills, not fewer."
Claude Opus 4.7: New Benchmarks in Agentic Coding
The new model scores 64.3% on SWE-bench Pro and 87.6% on SWE-bench Verified, extending its lead in long-horizon autonomy and complex code reasoning. It also improves professional knowledge work tasks like document creation, financial analysis, and multi-step research.
Running on Bedrock's next-generation inference engine, it features dynamic capacity allocation, adaptive thinking—allocating token budgets based on request complexity—and a full 1M token context window. High-resolution image support enhances accuracy on charts, dense documents, and screen UIs.
Initially available in US East (N. Virginia), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Europe (Ireland), and Europe (Stockholm), the model supports up to 10,000 requests per minute per account per Region.
AWS Interconnect: Multicloud and Last-Mile Connectivity
AWS Interconnect introduces two managed capabilities. First, AWS Interconnect – Multicloud provides Layer 3 private connections between AWS VPCs and other cloud providers. Google Cloud is available now; Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure expected later in 2026. Traffic flows over the AWS global backbone and partner cloud private networks—never the public internet—with MACsec encryption, multi-facility resiliency, and CloudWatch monitoring. The underlying specification has been published on GitHub under Apache 2.0.

Second, AWS Interconnect – Last Mile simplifies high-speed private connections from branch offices, data centers, and remote locations to AWS. It automatically provisions 4 redundant connections across 2 physical locations, configures BGP routing, and activates MACsec encryption and Jumbo Frames by default. Bandwidth ranges from 1 Gbps to 100 Gbps, adjustable.
Background
AWS has steadily expanded its AI services through Bedrock, partnering with Anthropic to bring cutting-edge models to customers. Meanwhile, the Interconnect launch follows growing enterprise demand for secure, high-speed private connectivity amid multicloud adoption. The open specification aims to foster an ecosystem of interoperable cloud providers.
What This Means
These releases position AWS to capture more of the enterprise AI and networking market. Claude Opus 4.7's enhanced coding and reasoning capabilities could accelerate AI-driven development, while Interconnect addresses critical latency and security concerns for hybrid and multicloud architectures. Customers can expect reduced reliance on public internet and simplified last-mile connectivity, potentially lowering operational costs. The move also signals AWS's confidence in open standards, potentially reshaping how cloud providers interconnect.
